Objective Of Punjab Ashirwad Scheme
The Department of Social Justice Empowerment and Minorities under the Government of Punjab introduced the Ashirwad scheme with the primary objective of offering financial assistance to the parents of a girl child. This assistance is targeted at families belonging to scheduled castes, Christian girls, backward classes/castes, economically weaker sections, daughters of widows, and scheduled caste widow/divorcee women to support them during their daughters’ marriage. Punjab Ashirwad Scheme Benefits/ Features
The Aashirwad scheme, introduced by the government of Punjab and managed by the Department of Social Justice Empowerment and Minorities, aims to benefit the parents or guardians of girl children. Starting from August 2017, the scheme provides a financial aid of Rs. 21,000 at the time of the girl’s marriage. This assistance is extended to girls belonging to scheduled castes, Christian girls, backward classes/castes, economically weaker sections, daughters of widows, and scheduled caste widow/divorcee women, provided the girl is at least 18 years old at the time of marriage.
As of Wednesday, 30th November 2022, Minister Baljeet Kaur announced the distribution of Rs. 129.29 crore to over 25,000 beneficiaries under the Ashirwad Scheme for the current financial year. Additionally, a total of Rs. 161.31 crores has been allocated under the scheme for the current financial year, offering Rs. 51,000 to women from scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and other backward classes for their marriage.
Eligibility Criteria of Punjab Ashirwad Scheme
The eligibility criteria for availing benefits under this scheme are as follows:-
1. The applicant should be a girl belonging to one of the following categories: scheduled caste, Christian girl, backward class/caste, economically vulnerable section, daughter of a widow, or scheduled caste widow/divorcee woman.
2. The total annual income of the applicant’s family should not exceed Rs. 32,790/- from all sources, effective from 13-2-2014.
3. The applicant must be 18 years of age or older at the time of marriage.
4. The applicant should be a genuine citizen of India residing in Punjab.
5. The scheme’s benefits will be extended to a maximum of two girls from the same family.
6. Possession of a BPL (Below Poverty Line) Card is a mandatory requirement for eligibility under this scheme.
